“Step Up” on 13 October for the International Day for Disaster Reduction

October 13 is the International Day for Disaster Reduction (GA resolution 64/200 of 21 December 2009). As 13 October falls on Saturday this year, the UN will observe the Day on Friday 12 October. The theme for 2012 is "Women and Girls: The [in]Visible Force of Resilience". This year's International Day will put a spotlight on the millions of women and girls who are making their communities more resilient to disaster and climate risks and helping to protect development investments. The International Day is the most widely observed day for raising awareness about disaster risk reduction, creating social demand, and mobilizing the wider public to get involved and take ownership of the processes to create disaster resilience. This day will also build partnerships with organizations involved with gender and disaster risk reduction. Read full article at Unisdr.org
